Use Stained Glass Windows to Decorate Your Home

My name is Linda, and I am a professional interior decorator with additional experience in construction. I am passionate about the beauty of stained glass and its ability to completely transform a room or an entire home. Consider turning one or more of your windows into a work of art by replacing it with a stained glass design. If you don't want to completely replace a window, you can order a customized stained glass window and have it hung in front of your existing window. This creates a lovely focal piece in your home. Decorating with stained glass is easy and can make a huge difference in your home's appearance.

Tips For Slowing The Fading Process On Your Wooden Blinds

Wood blinds are an excellent way to elevate the aesthetic of your home. However, because they are designed to block light from getting into your house and to provide privacy, they are going to be exposed to a lot of UV rays. There's no getting around it. This could be a problem due to the fact that wood has the potential to fade and you could be left with ugly spots on your blinds. Here are some tips to keep your wooden blinds from fading so that they continue to make your house look as good as possible.

1. Look for Low-E Glass

If you are going to have wooden shutters on the inside of your home, then you should definitely be looking for new windows. These windows should be labeled Low-E or low-emissions. The reason for this is that they will let less UV rays through than regular glass and will therefore ensure that your blinds do not fade quickly.

2. Look for Blinds With Pre-Applied Protective Coating

If you are going to be purchasing a new set of blinds that go on the outside of your home, look for ones that have a pre-applied protective coating. This is important because it will allow you to block the UV rays and ensure that you are not going to need to replace your blinds too soon. If you already have blinds installed, look for a protective coating that you can apply yourself at your local hardware store.

3. Go With a Light Stain

Dark wood is going to absorb a lot more sunlight and therefore a lot more radiation. This means that it is going to warp faster and fade faster. In order to reduce the chances that this happens, you should go with a light stain. Light stains are going to absorb less sunlight and fade less quickly. Should they fade, they are not going to show as quickly. It is also going to be relatively easy to redo the windows after a few years with that same light stain.

Your wooden blinds are going to fade eventually, especially if they are outside. However, if you purchase wooden blinds that have a protective coating and if you make sure that you use a light stain, you should be able to slow how quickly the fading occurs, allowing you to go for a longer period of time without having to do any touch-ups.
