Have A Few Unusual Windows That Need Replacing? Companies That Can Help
Older homes have some strange and unusual windows. It often makes you wonder what the previous and original homeowners were thinking when they decided to install windows of such an unusual size and/or shape. If you are now finding that these windows need replacing, you would be hard-pressed to find them in any of the usual places where windows are sold. However, there are some companies that can help you with this particular problem.
Custom Window Products
These are window manufacturers that can replace your unique windows by custom-making replacements that fit. For example, say that you have a narrow arrow slit window that is ten inches wide and eighteen inches. The window is leaking, and you need to remove it and install a replacement. Call a custom window company, give them the measurements of the window, and they will make and ship you a new window. If you are not sure you have the measurements correct, the company representative on the phone will walk and talk you through taking the measurements to make sure the custom window is manufactured to perfection.
Stained Glass Products
Maybe you have a round window or a rose window, but round windows are not exactly in stock at your Home Depot. That is okay, because you can actually replace these round windows with stained glass products. Give the diameter of the open space of your round/rose window to a stained glass company, select some colors and/or a pattern, and the stained glass company creates the window for you. You will still need to hire a widow and door contractor to install it though, since the old one will have to be carefully removed to avoid damaging the wall in which it currently sits.
Transom Window Products
There are some old houses that have transom windows above each door, including the front door. These windows tend to leak, crack, and eventually lose their glass. There are window companies that specialize in transom windows and transom window replacements. You will need to consult with them because modern transom windows will not be the same size as these antiquated versions. However, transom windows are, quite possibly, the easiest windows to install. You should be able to install the replacement transom windows by yourself, as long as you have a sturdy stepladder and a couple of good screwdrivers. You may need one extra pair of helping hands, too, because these windows tend to be a little heavy.
